Dan became hostile to his very best friend for the decision he made and worse was that he did not inform him before doing so. As time went on Dan started showing her love and concern as a way of making her nurture the pains of her break up; after all he was working and had more money advantage over Jesse who was schooling and  depended more on his parents for his welfare. Bye and bye affections set in and  they started dating. Jesse on the other side had to forgotten about it all and moved on with his life. Few months into the relationship Dan started noticing her uncertainties and rude behaviour but he covered it up and never reacted due to the love he had for her.
